First Person Cultural Trainer

The First Person Cultural Trainer (FPCT) is a simulation designed to help U.S. soldiers learn and practice customs for interacting with civilians in Middle Eastern countries. The simulation is sponsored by the U.S. Army.

FPCT features a variety of training scenarios where soldiers practice their skills in a variety of branching conversations and events. The goal of each scenario is to gather information while maintaining positive rapport with the community.

As a research assistant on the project, my responsibilities included:

  • Conducting literature reviews and authoring research content

  • Writing and implementing branching dialogue and events using a proprietary scripting language

  • Creating posters, flyers, and promotional materials for the simulation

FPCT has been recognized with multiple awards, including Best Game at the I/ITSEC Showcase in 2011. You can read more about the project here.
